KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 8 (NNN-BERNAMA) – Malaysia’s industrial production index (IPI), grew 4.9 percent year-on-year, in the third quarter, as compared to two percent in the second quarter, official data showed, yesterday.
The Department of Statistics Malaysia, said in a statement that, this significant growth was contributed by all sectors, including manufacturing (four percent), mining (10.3 percent) and electricity (1.9 percent).
On a quarter-on-quarter comparison, the IPI rose by 6.6 percent.
Meanwhile, the IPI grew at a moderate 3.1 percent in the first nine months, compared with the same period in the preceding year.
This was underpinned by a four percent expansion in the manufacturing index. The mining index and electricity index also recorded marginal growth of 0.2 percent and 0.1 percent, respectively.
As for September, the IPI expanded by 5.7 percent.– NNN-BERNAMA
