Fuel Train Derailed In Sri Lanka, Disrupting Services On Main Line

COLOMBO, Nov 2 (NNN-LNW) – A Sri Lankan train, carrying fuel, derailed this morning, disrupting services on the country’s Main Line, Sri Lanka Railways announced.

The incident occurred between the Mirigama and Wilwatte railway stations, in the Western Province. According to Sri Lanka Railways, the train was transporting fuel from the Kolonnawa Petroleum Storage Terminal to Batticaloa.

Railway workers are currently clearing the tracks to restore regular train operations.

Train accidents are common in Sri Lanka. In 2023, there were 1,239 reported incidents, involving trains, including 125 derailments, according to the Sri Lanka Railways Administration Report 2023.– NNN-LNW
