BAGHDAD, Oct 29 (NNN-NINA) – The Iraqi National Security Service (INSS), announced yesterday, the arrest of a Daesh operative, in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, who was involved in multiple deadly armed attacks targeting security forces.
According to the INSS, an initial investigation identified the suspect by the alias, Abu Mohammed. He joined the Daesh in 2014, and participated in several armed attacks targeting security forces in the Latifiya area, located south of Baghdad, leading to the killing of 19 security personnel, including an army officer.
Intelligence reports indicated that, the suspect held logistical and administrative roles within an area known by the Daesh as the “Zobaa – Fallujah Sector,” west of Baghdad.
After the Daesh was largely dismantled in Iraq, he fled to Syria, before secretly returning to Baghdad, where he was later tracked down and captured by INSS units.
The suspect has been handed over to judicial authorities for legal proceedings, the statement added.
While Iraq declared victory over the Daesh in 2017, remnants of the group continue to carry out attacks against security forces and civilians, in urban areas, deserts, and remote regions.– NNN-NINA
