HANOI, Oct 28 (NNN-VNA) – The Vietnamese government has called for emergency response efforts, to deal with the severe flooding, that has battered the country’s central region, over the past few days.

Local authorities in Quang Tri, Quang Ngai provinces, Hue and Da Nang cities, have been urged to carry out timely evacuations and provide adequate shelters for affected residents.

They have also been asked to ensure the supply of food, drinking water, medicine and other essential goods to flood-hit areas, according to the report.

According to the Vietnam Disaster and Dyke Management Authority, tens of thousands of people in the affected localities have been evacuated to safe shelters.

Prolonged torrential rains have triggered widespread flooding and landslides, in many parts of the region, local daily Thanh Nien reported.

Hue city has been severely inundated, with more than 80 percent of its area submerged, while several communes in Da Nang remain isolated as floodwaters overflow roads.– NNN-VNA
