COLOMBO, Oct 22 (NNN-LNW) – Over 40,000 dengue cases have been reported in Sri Lanka, from Jan 1 to yesterday, said the National Dengue Control Unit (NDCU).
A total of 40,633 dengue cases have been reported, Community Medical Specialist, Prashila Samaraweera said, adding that, a majority of the cases have been reported from the Western Province, the most populous area of Sri Lanka.
She said, 22 dengue-related deaths have been reported within that time period, and most mosquito breeding sites have been found within schools, government institutions, places of worship and abandoned lands and buildings.
Nearly 50,000 dengue cases were reported in Sri Lanka last year, with 24 fatalities, according to NDCU data.– NNN-LNW
