Strong Winds Damaged Nearly 100 Houses In Sri Lanka’s North-Western Province

COLOMBO, Oct 19 (NNN-LNW) – Nearly 100 houses were damaged, in Sri Lanka’s north-western province, due to strong winds, triggered by the prevailing adverse weather conditions, a senior Disaster Management Centre (DMC) officer said, yesterday.

DMC media spokesman, Pradeep Kodippili, said, they are taking necessary measures to assist residents impacted by the situation.

Kodippili said, the Meteorology Department has also advised the public to remain alert, noting that, heavy rainfall exceeding 100 mm could occur in some areas of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva, North Central, Eastern, and North Western provinces in the coming days.

He added that, landslide warnings have been issued for six districts for the coming 24 hours as well.– NNN-LNW
