SYDNEY, Oct 10 (NNN-AAP) – Police have charged a Polish national with a drug smuggling offense, after about four kg cocaine was allegedly found in his luggage on arrival in Western Australia (WA).
The Australian Federal Police (AFP) and Australian Border Force (ABF), said in a joint statement today that, the 45-year-old man was stopped for a baggage examination, after officers noticed him behaving suspiciously upon arrival at Perth International Airport, WA, on Sept 29.
During the search, ABF officers allegedly found two packages containing a white substance, concealed within the lining of the man’s suitcase. Subsequent testing identified the substance as cocaine, with an estimated total weight of 4.1 kg.
The cocaine was seized by the AFP, and the man was arrested and charged with one count of importing a commercial quantity of cocaine.
If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of life imprisonment.
AFP Acting Commander, Murray Taylor, said that, the work of law enforcement officers at airports is “critical” to protecting Australians from drug traffickers.– NNN-AAP
