Sri Lankan Police Arrest 76,000 Suspects With Outstanding Warrants In Nine Months

COLOMBO, Oct 6 (NNN-LNW) – Sri Lankan police have arrested 76,000 individuals, who failed to comply with warrants issued against them between Jan 1 and the end of September, local media reported, today.

Police spokesperson, F. U. Wootler, was quoted by local media as saying that, the arrests were made as part of a nationwide initiative to curb crime and drug trafficking.

He said that, during the first nine months of this year, police conducted searches on more than 5.6 million people across the country, to detect illegal drugs and weapons.

Sri Lankan police have seized a total of 1,248 kg of heroin and 1,852 kg of crystal methamphetamine during the past nine months, according to the police.– NNN-LNW
