KATHMANDU, Oct 5 (NNN-XINHUA) – The Nepali government, yesterday, imposed a three-day ban on the entry and exit of vehicles from the Kathmandu Valley, citing risks posed by landslides and floods, due to incessant rainfall across the country.
The precautionary measure was taken, after the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology projected heavy rainfall across the country, which could trigger floods, landslides and inundation, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) said, in a notice.
The ban, until tomorrow, shall affect hundreds of thousands of Nepalis, who had left the valley for their hometowns, to celebrate the biggest Dashain festival.
Similarly, long-distance travel from five provinces, namely Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini, has also been banned.
The NDRRMA has urged local authorities and security agencies in the affected districts, to ensure that the ban on vehicular movement is strictly enforced.– NNN-XINHUA
