DOHA, Oct 4 (NNN-QNA) – Qatar, today, welcomed Hamas’ acceptance of U.S. President Donald Trump’s peace plan for Gaza, and the group’s willingness to release all hostages as part of the exchange outlined in the proposal.
“We also affirm our support for the statements made by the President, calling for an immediate ceasefire to facilitate the safe and swift release of hostages, and to achieve rapid results that would put an end to the bloodshed of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip,” Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Majed bin Mohammed Al Ansari, wrote on X.
Al Ansari added that, Qatar has begun working with Egypt, in coordination with the United States, to continue discussions on the plan and ensure a path towards ending the conflict.
The U.S.-proposed 20-point plan combines a ceasefire-for-hostages deal, phased Israeli withdrawal, and international oversight on Gaza’s post-war reconstruction and governance.
Trump, yesterday, demanded that Israel immediately stop bombing Gaza, hours after Hamas said it had agreed in principle to release the hostages.
Qatar, with Egypt, played a central role as mediator throughout the conflict, previously helping broker humanitarian pauses and prisoner exchanges between Israel and Hamas.– NNN-QNA
