JAKARTA, Sept 25 (NNN-ANTARA) – Indonesian President, Prabowo Subianto, called for international solidarity, and stressed the importance of a strong United Nations (UN), in addressing increasingly complex global challenges, according to a statement released by the Presidential Secretariat, yesterday.
Prabowo made his statement on Tuesday, during his speech at the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, United States.
“The UN was created to ensure peace, security, justice, and freedom for all. We remain committed to internationalism, multilateralism, and every effort to strengthen this great institution,” said Prabowo.
The Indonesian head of state stressed that, a just world order should not be the privilege of a small group of nations, but rather the rights of all humanity.
Therefore, the UN must be strengthened to address increasingly complex global challenges, including conflict, humanitarian crises, and social and economic injustices, Prabowo said.
He also said that, Indonesia has been one of the largest contributors to UN peacekeeping forces, and will continue to strengthen this role in the future. He believed that global security and peace cannot be supported by mere words but must be realised through concrete actions.
“No country can feel safe. We need the UN, and Indonesia will continue to support the UN. Even though we are still struggling, we know the world needs a strong UN,” he said.– NNN-ANTARA
