VLADIVOSTOK, Russia, Sept 19 (NNN-TASS) – No damage has been reported, following a powerful earthquake that struck Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula, early this morning, regional authorities said.
The 7.4 magnitude quake occurred at 6:58 a.m. local time (1858 GMT Thursday), according to the Kamchatka branch of the Ministry of Emergency Situations. Residents of the administrative centre Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky and the southern city of Vilyuchinsk, felt tremors measuring up to six points on the intensity scale.
Many people rushed outdoors despite the early hour, to avoid the aftershock, while a tsunami warning was issued along the eastern coast of the peninsula.
Sergei Lebedev, the region’s emergency minister, said in a statement that, a wave of about 30 cm was recorded at the mouth of the Nalychevo River.– NNN-TASS
