
NAIROBI, Sept 14 (NNN-KBC) — President William Ruto has announced that teachers in Kenya will be allocated 20pc of the Affordable Housing units for their contribution to the scheme.
During the Waalimu Na Rais Forum at State House, Nairobi, on Saturday, the President revealed that teachers contribute 13pc to the housing levy, amounting to Ksh 900 million monthly, and hence deserved to benefit from the program.
Before outlining what his administration has done in the education sector, the Head of State told off his former second in command Rigathi Gachagua for claiming that the meetings held at the house on the hill is breeding grounds for corruption.
President Ruto stated that his administration will continue the meetings with the citizens and leaders alike to outline what they have achieved so far in the last three years since taking over the helm
He also vowed that his administration will not relent on the crack down on rogue institutions and fraudsters misusing the Social Health Authority (SHA), warning that corruption will not be allowed to derail the country’s push toward Universal Health Coverage.
He, further, revealed that there will be at least Ksh1 trillion at the NSSF by 2027 after his administration capped the contribution at 6pc.
According to the Head of State, in the last three years, the education budget rose from Ksh 540 Billion to Ksh 702 Billion.
He also addressed concerns over the Competency-Based Curriculum and assured smooth transition following the hiring of 76,000 teachers assuring that at least 100,000 more will be hired by January to boost the teacher-student ratio.
Meanwhile, Ruto received Ambassador Ramtane Lamamra, the Personal Envoy of the Secretary General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres on Sudan.
Ruto reiterated Kenya’s commitment in supporting efforts that seek to arrest the tragic humanitarian disaster affecting the people of Sudan, stop the war and return Sudan to the path that its citizens defined in the revolution of 2019. — NNN-KBC
