SYDNEY, Sept 7 (NNN-APP) – A teenager died and four more people hospitalised, after a car that was being chased by police crashed, north of Sydney, last night.
Police in the state of New South Wales (NSW), said that, officers attempted to stop the vehicle, travelling at high speed, on a highway, 190 km north of Sydney in the state’s Hunter region, around 11:55 p.m. on Saturday.
When the driver allegedly failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated and continued until the car crashed.
The 14-year-old male driver, and 17-year-old male front passenger, were subsequently trapped in the wreckage. Both were released and treated by ambulance paramedics, but the 17-year-old died at the scene.
The driver was airlifted to hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening.
Three rear passengers, two boys aged 14 and 17, and a 25-year-old woman, were also taken to the same hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
NSW Police said in a statement that, it is believed the vehicle they were travelling in had been stolen from a business in the region, sometime after 5.00 p.m. yesterday.– NNN-AAP
