NEW DELHI, Sept 5 (NNN-PTI) – Several areas in India’s Delhi continued to be flooded today, as the river Yamuna flowed over 207 metres, much above the danger mark.
Though according to the latest media reports, the river water was receding over the past few hours. Areas in north and east Delhi located along the river remained flooded.
More than 10,000 people had been affected by the floods and evacuated to safer places. Shops, schools and other establishments in the flood-affected areas were shut, as flood water entered houses.
The river Yamuna had been overflowing for the past few days, thus submerging several low-lying residential and commercial areas. Delhi and nearby areas had been receiving heavy to very heavy rains for the past few days.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued repeated alerts for more rainfall in Delhi and nearby areas.– NNN-PTI
