JAKARTA, Sept 4 (NNN-ANTARA) – Indonesian Minister of Agriculture, Andi Amran Sulaiman, said yesterday, he was optimistic the country’s rice production would rise to 33 million tonnes this year, a key level for achieving self-sufficiency.
The target surpasses last year’s production of 30.62 million tonnes.
“As the Central Statistics Agency recently projected, rice output will reach 31.04 million tonnes by Oct, and we still have two more months until year-end. So, we are optimistic it will hit 33 million tonnes this year,” he told lawmakers in a parliamentary session.
The minister said, the rise in production is supported by government programmes, ranging from optimising land productivity and improving irrigation networks, to developing new rice fields.– NNN-ANTARA
