Spain strengthens support for Palestine and Solidarity Flotilla

MADRID, Sept 1 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) — Spain strengthened its support for Palestine and against Israel’s genocide, while reiterating its commitment to a peaceful two-state solution in the Middle East.

As a solidarity flotilla set sail from Barcelona for Gaza, Spain’s Second Vice President and Minister of Labor, Yolanda Diaz, called for “breaking relations with Israel.”

“Thank you to the hundreds of people and boats setting sail today for Gaza to break Israel’s blockade. The Israeli government must allow their arrival,” stressed Diaz, founder of the Sumar group, one of the pillars of the national government.

In a message posted on social media, specifically on Bluesky, she thanked the Global Sumud Flotilla for its initiative and the courage of the people seeking to provide essential humanitarian assistance to Gaza.

Underscoring her call to sever relations with Israel, the second vice president asserted that at this moment, “they cannot look the other way. The genocide must be stopped.”

Many of those detained or deported two months ago when they attempted to do something similar are now participating in the Global Sumud Flotilla, which involves 44 countries and has 50 ships, with internationally renowned passengers, including American actress Susan Sarandon and Swedish activist Greta Thunberg.

The expedition’s main objective is not only to establish a humanitarian corridor for Gaza, but also to demand that governments stop “Israel’s genocide in the Strip,” as Sarandon and Thunberg emphasized during a day of reflection and discussion yesterday in Barcelona. — NNN-PRENSA LATINA
