Drug Seized, Smuggler Detained In N. Afghanistan

KABUL, Aug 31 (NNN-BNA) – Police have confiscated 40 kg of opium poppy, and arrested an individual, on charges of attempting to smuggle the contraband from the northern Afghanistan Baghlan province, provincial director for counter-narcotics police, Mullah Mohammad Nabi Kamran, said yesterday.

The alleged drug smuggler had hidden the contraband in a car, and was attempting to take it to the capital Kabul city, the official said, adding, police discovered the illegal object during checking and took into custody its smuggler.

Similarly, police reported the discovery of 31 kg of opium poppy and the detention of an alleged smuggler, in Badakhshan province on Friday.– NNN-BNA
