TEHRAN, Aug 26 (NNN-IRNA) – Iranian President, Masoud Pezeshkian, yesterday, reaffirmed Iran’s opposition to nuclear weapons, during a phone conversation with Russian President, Vladimir Putin, according to a statement by the Iranian Presidency.

Pezeshkian pledged to personally oversee the accelerated construction of the Rasht-Astara railway, a key link in the International North-South Transport Corridor, connecting the Persian Gulf with Russia and Central Asia, along with other bilateral projects.

Pezeshkian also underscored the role of multilateral platforms, such as the Eurasian Economic Union, the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation and BRICS, in enhancing cooperation among member states to counter unilateralism.

For his part, Putin briefed Pezeshkian on the main points and outcomes of his recent talks with U.S. President, Donald Trump, in Alaska, saying, the discussions produced positive results that could contribute to resolving the conflict in Ukraine.

He described Moscow-Tehran ties as constructive and steadily advancing, citing an 11 percent rise in bilateral trade, in the first half of the year. Putin also noted progress on joint projects, including the Rasht-Astara railway, and cooperation at the Bushehr nuclear power plant, with the transfer of new fuel for the facility already underway.
