Kenya: President Ruto declares 27th August as Katiba Day in commemoration of the promulgation of the 2010 constitution.

NAIROBI, Aug 25 (NNN-KBC) — Kenyan President William Ruto has declared 27th August as Katiba Day which will be observed annually in commemoration of the promulgation of the 2010 constitution.

In a Presidential Proclamation issued Monday morning, he Ruto noted that the 27th of August 2025 will mark the 15th anniversary of Kenya’s Constitution, a historic milestone in the nation’s democratic journey.

The proclamation described the 2010 Constitution as one of the most transformative and progressive legal frameworks in human history, credited with entrenching constitutionalism, devolution, equitable development, and the protection of fundamental rights and freedoms.

“It is befitting for the people of Kenya to commemorate this day as a reminder of our collective duty to obey, preserve, protect, and implement the Constitution,” the President stated.

According to the directive, Katiba Day will be observed annually on 27th August both in Kenya and at diplomatic missions abroad.

“Katiba Day shall be observed throughout the territory of Kenya and all our diplomatic missions abroad as a day dedicated to renewing our shared commitment to the ideals of our Constitution by fostering national dialogue on constitutionalism, governance, and the rule of law,” he declared.

The President noted that the day will serve as an occasion for national dialogue on constitutionalism, governance, and the rule of law.

“While Katiba Day shall remain a working day, all government institutions in the three arms of government and the two levels of governance, including schools, shall organize, hold, and participate in solemn civic activities on that Day to foster constitutional awareness and civic engagement,” President Ruto stated. — NNN-KBC
