SINGAPORE, Aug 22 (NNN-XINHUA) – Three people were taken to hospital, after a fire broke out in a residential building, in central Singapore, early this morning.
About 50 people in the affected block, in Toa Payoh area, were evacuated as a precaution, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), said, on social media.
When officers arrived, they found the living room of a 12th-floor unit on fire. The SCDF conducted forcible entry into the unit and extinguished the fire with a water jet. The blaze was confined to the living room.
One person rescued from the kitchen was assessed for smoke inhalation and minor burn injuries. Two others from neighbouring units were also sent to hospitals, one for breathlessness and the other for an injured ankle.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the fire involved a personal mobility aid, in the living room, the SCDF said.
The authority advised the public not to leave batteries or devices charging for prolonged periods or unattended overnight, and to avoid using non-original batteries.– NNN-XINHUA
