ISLAMABAD, Aug 20 (NNN-APP) – Pakistan reported a new monkeypox case, after a 42-year-old man from Attock, in eastern Punjab province, tested positive, health authorities said, yesterday.
The National Institute of Health (NIH) confirmed the case, through laboratory testing on Monday, Mumtaz Ali Khan, the NIH’s focal person for infectious diseases, said. He also said, the patient is receiving treatment under isolation protocols.
Pakistan has so far recorded 18 monkeypox cases this year, compared with nine each in 2024 and 2023, according to the NIH official. One fatality was reported in 2023, while no deaths have been recorded this year, he added.
Health authorities said, regular monitoring is underway to track the situation and ensure that precautionary measures are fully implemented.– NNN-APP
