SYDNEY, Aug 19 (NNN-AAP) – Police in the Australian state of Western Australia (WA), are investigating the death of an infant, whose body was found in a drain, in the state capital of Perth.
Emergency services were called to the scene in Perth’s northern suburbs, where the body was found by maintenance workers, in a storm-water drain around 1.00 p.m. local time yesterday.
A spokesperson for WA Police, said that, multiple resources were deployed, and an investigation has commenced.
The age and gender of the child have not been confirmed, but Nine Network television reported that the child was a newborn.
WA Police last night issued an alert to maternity hospitals across Perth, citing concerns for the welfare of the infant’s mother.
Detectives from the major crime unit investigating the case have appealed for anyone with information, to immediately contact the police.– NNN-AAP
