JAKARTA, Aug 17 (NNN-ANTARA) – To celebrate Indonesia Independence Day, the Ministry of Tourism has launched a series of cultural destinations and live tourism activities, aimed at showcasing the rich culture and vibrant tourism industry of the country.

Today, the events will be held at strategic sites like Merdeka Palace in Jakarta and the National Monument (Monas), promising an electrifying blend of art, music, and local performances for locals and foreign tourists alike.

Tourism Minister, Widiyanti Putri Wardhana, expressed the importance of these events in a statement, saying, “This is concrete support from the Ministry of Tourism to realise the spirit of independence for every individual to share in the joy and pride of being Indonesian.”

The celebration is designed not only to commemorate the nation’s independence but also to strengthen tourism’s role in boosting economic growth through cultural tourism.

A grand cultural showcase will unfold during the Proclamation of Independence ceremony at Merdeka Palace. Over 1,000 dancers and local musicians will participate in a spectacular performance, celebrating Indonesia’s diverse cultures, artistic traditions, and musical heritage. Minister Wardhana emphasised that, these performances symbolise the immense wealth of the nation and its commitment to preserving cultural identity.

The performances will not only highlight Indonesia’s rich heritage but also provide an opportunity for the tourism industry to promote cultural tourism. The Minister added, “These events symbolise the immense wealth of the Indonesian nation, which we must preserve for the sake of unity and integrity, while strengthening tourism as a driver of the national economy.”

A highlight of the Independence Day festivities will be the People’s Festival, taking place at Monas and the surrounding streets in Jakarta. This lively celebration is being organised by the Ministry of Tourism in collaboration with several partners. The festival will feature a range of fun, interactive, and educational activities for all ages.

The evening of Independence Day will feature an exciting parade of carnival cars, each adorned with themes representing Indonesia’s tourism heritage. Moreover, The cars will highlight the country’s rich cultural destinations, from the beaches of Bali to the mountainous regions of Java and the historical temples of Yogyakarta. These vibrant floats will travel through the festival area, offering a visually stunning representation of Indonesia’s tourism potential.

In her closing remarks, Minister Wardhana extended a heartfelt invitation to all citizens, saying, “We invite all levels of society to join in this celebration. Independence Day is a time for the entire nation to unite in celebrating Indonesia’s independence, our shared history, and our bright future.”
