BEIRUT, Aug 11 (NNN-NNA) – Six Lebanese soldiers were killed and an unspecified number of others injured, when a weapons depot exploded during an inspection and dismantling operation carried out by an army unit in the city of Tyre, southern Lebanon.
The army said in a statement that, “An explosion occurred inside the depot, resulting in an initial toll of six soldiers martyred.”
It added that, “follow-up is underway to determine the causes of the incident.”
It was reported that, munitions left over from the “Israeli aggression” in the south, exploded while an army engineering team was dismantling some shells in the area.
A source in the Lebanese Red Cross said that, “its teams transported the bodies of dead army personnel and a number of injured to hospitals in the city of Tyre.”
Lebanese President, Joseph Aoun, expressed his sorrow over the fallen soldiers and offered his condolences to their families and the army for their loss, wishing the wounded a speedy recovery.– NNN-NNA
