Brunei’s Legislative Council Meeting Concluded With Emphasis On Vision 2035

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Aug 10 (NNN-PELITA) – The Brunei legislative council meeting wrapped up yesterday, with legislative council members touching on various steps towards realising the Brunei Vision 2035.

Haji Mohamad Danial, a legislative council member, emphasised that, rural development must not be overlooked as Brunei moves towards achieving its Vision 2035 goals. He stressed the importance of equality in national planning, calling for strategic efforts to ensure rural areas are included in the country’s progress.

In support of the government’s target of 85 percent homeownership, under the national housing scheme by 2035, he proposed the revitalisation of rural communities through integrated housing developments. This approach would not only offer affordable and comfortable homes, but also counter the loss of village residents caused by urban migration.

Highlighting the rise of digital connectivity, Haji Sulaiman Nasir, a legislative council member, noted, a 12.5 percent increase in mobile phone usage, reaching 538,723 users, between 2012 and 2022, and broadband penetration of 85.89 percent. He urged authorities to promote the responsible and beneficial use of technology to safeguard the well-being of the population.

Meanwhile, Haji Daud Jihan, another legislative council member, stressed the importance of national unity and commitment in achieving Brunei Vision 2035. He called for a “whole-of-government” and “whole-of-nation” approach, aligned with the country’s social, economic, and manpower blueprints, to ensure long-term and inclusive progress.– NNN-PELITA
