Cuba strengthens scientific ties in Geneva

HAVANA, Aug 10 (NNN-ACN) — Rudy Montero Mata, Cuban deputy minister of science, technology, and the environment, held talks with representatives of prominent scientific institutions in Geneva, Switzerland, to strengthen international cooperation in environmental research and conservation.

A statement from the Cuban Foreign Ministry highlights that during a visit to the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), Montero Mata expressed his gratitude for the organization’s cooperation in the training of Cuban scientists.

The deputy minister spoke with CERN officials and greeted two Cuban scientists currently participating in projects at that prestigious institution.

Both parties reaffirmed their mutual interest in expanding collaboration, including new modalities of academic and scientific exchange that benefit Cuba and the Caribbean.

The publication emphasizes that the Cuban representative invited the Center’s directors to participate at the International Convention on Science, Technology, and Innovation, to be held in Cuba next year.

As part of his agenda, Montero Mata also visited Bioparc Geneva, a center dedicated to biodiversity conservation, where he exchanged with Tobias Blaha, the park’s director, and Christina Meissner, president of the Bioparc Foundation Board.

There, he inquired about educational, health, and rescued species management projects, and explored possibilities for collaboration with related Cuban institutions.

The Bioparc authorities expressed their gratitude for the visit and expressed their willingness to travel to Cuba to exchange experiences with Cuban institutions on animal management and biodiversity protection. — NNN-ACN
