Uruguay: Government described 2 tons of cocaine seizure as historic

MONTEVIDEO, Aug 5 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) –The Uruguayan government described the seizure of more than two tons of cocaine as historic, as part of a major operation carried out the day before.

“It’s a historic cocaine seizure, apparently based on field evidence,” Interior Minister Carlos Negro said at a press conference, expressing his “great satisfaction with the work of the police.”

The seizure of the drugs was the result of simultaneous raids carried out in the departments of Montevideo and Canelones.

“It’s certainly a hard blow to drug trafficking,” the minister, who considered that it “is a culmination of the work we have been doing in the first months of my administration”, stated.

Negro praised the coordinated intelligence work supported by the Prefecture, the Republican Guard, the Scientific Police, and the Unified Command Center.

Six people were arrested in the operation.

Part of the drugs were buried on a property in Punta Espinillo, Canelones.

The rest was found in trucks, ready to be transported. It is presumed to have been shipped abroad by sea. — NNN-PRENSA LATINA
