Torrential Rains Leave 10 Dead In N. Vietnam

HANOI, Aug 4 (NNN-VNA) – Heavy rains from Thursday to Friday, triggered deadly floods and landslides in northern Vietnam’s Dien Bien and Son La provinces, leaving 10 people dead and four injured, the Vietnam Disaster and Dyke Management Authority reported, yesterday.

In Dien Bien province, 10 people have been confirmed dead, after two missing individuals were found, while 97 houses were swept away or severely damaged, and 196 others were inundated or affected by landslides.

In Son La, four people were injured and 17 houses damaged or swept away, with 12 villages in two communes isolated, due to collapsed roads and destroyed bridges, the report added.

Authorities have deployed rescue teams to search for victims, support affected families, and relocate people and property to safe areas.

The Vietnamese government approved 250 billion Vietnamese dong (about 9.53 million U.S. dollars) from the central budget to aid Dien Bien, Son La, and the southern province of Nghe An, in disaster recovery and stabilising local communities, it was reported yesterday.– NNN-VNA
