Venezuela closed border crossings for Sunday municipal elections

CARACAS, July 27 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) — Venezuela closed its border crossings until six a.m. next Monday, as a way to “facilitate the development of the municipal elections to be held on July 27, throughout the national territory,” announced Executive Vice President Delcy Rodriguez.

These restrictions include a ban on vehicular, land, air, and sea travel in all these areas; as well as the sale of alcoholic beverages, until midnight on July 28, and the suspension of carrying firearms or knives during that time.

It also includes a ban on the sale of fireworks, meetings, congregations, and public demonstrations, and the movement of heavy machinery within the national territory.

The National Institute of Land Transportation informed heavy cargo transport operators yesterday of the traffic ban in connection with next Sunday’s municipal elections.

The government emphasized that the restriction is in accordance with Joint Resolutions 083 and 022 of the Ministry of the Interior, Justice, and Peace and the Ministry of Transportation, published in Official Gazette No. 42,425, dated July 25, 2022.

The traffic ban “does not apply to vehicles transporting the following products and services: perishable and non-perishable food and their respective raw materials; roadside assistance, emergency, police, or military assistance; telecommunications equipment; and equipment for national defense,” the statement stated. — NNN-PRENSA LATINA
