NAIROBI, July 26 (NNN-KBC) — Kenya and China have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening military and diplomatic ties between the two nations.
Speaking during the 98th anniversary of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) held in Nairobi, Chinese Ambassador to Kenya Guo Haiyan hailed the PLA as a strong pillar in global peace and security, calling for stronger partnerships across Africa, particularly with Kenya.
“China celebrates the 98th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Liberation Army and will commemorate the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War,” said Haiyan.
“We will adhere to the principle of “sincerity, real results, affinity, and good faith,” promote the vigorous development of the China-Kenya community with a shared future in the new era, and jointly build peace and prosperity in the Horn of Africa. We will deepen China-Africa peace and security cooperation and play a constructive role in safeguarding peace and security across Africa,” she added.
Kenya Army Commander Lieutenant General David Keter noted that the celebration was an opportunity to reflect on the enduring friendship between the two nations over decades.
He pointed out that the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) have greatly benefitted from support programs by the PLA in various fields including disaster response, peace support operations, counter terrorism and capacity building.
“Our officers and troops have had the privilege of participating in diverse training programs, staff courses, seminars, and study visits hosted by the PLA and Chinese institutions. These opportunities have broadened our strategic perspectives and strengthened our capacity,” he said.
The ceremony also marked the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War at a time when China is positioning itself as a key player in shaping the global security framework. — NNN-KBC
