Wipha Causes Severe Flooding In Central Vietnam

HANOI, Jul 23 (NNN-VNA) – Wipha, the sixth typhoon of this year, has caused severe flooding in central Vietnam, posing a high risk of flash floods and landslides in mountainous areas, local daily newspaper Nhan Dan (People) reported, today.

One death and one injury were reported in Nghe An province, due to flooding, where water levels in several residential areas reached depths of one to two metres, according to the report.

Meanwhile, Wipha triggered landslides at eight locations in Thanh Hoa province, with more than 20,000 cubic metres of earth and rock displaced.

The storm also blew the roofs off seven houses, submerged over 8,000 hectares of rice fields, and caused widespread damage to agricultural and property across the province, the report added.

Wipha had weakened into a tropical depression and moved west-southwest early today.– NNN-VNA
