KABUL, Jul 22 (NNN-BNA) – Da Afghanistan Bank, Afghanistan’s central bank, announced today that, it has collected a total of 1.009 billion afghani (over 14.6 million U.S. dollars) of worn-out banknotes and incinerated them in the capital, Kabul.
The worn-out currency was gathered from the central, south-eastern, and eastern regions of the country and set on fire in the presence of a government delegation in Kabul, the bank posted on its X account.
This follows a similar move earlier this year, when the bank burned over 4 billion afghani (more than 57 million dollars) worth of damaged banknotes in April and May.
The bank authorities have reiterated their commitment to withdrawing worn-out banknotes from circulation, encouraging the public to properly handle afghani banknotes in their daily dealings and business transactions.– NNN-BNA
