SYDNEY, Jul 22 (NNN-AAP) – A man has been hospitalised, after being attacked during a violent home invasion in western Sydney.
Emergency services were called to reports of a break-in, at the home in the suburb of Merrylands, 20 km west of central Sydney, around 1:45 a.m. local time today.
Police arrived and were told that a group of men wearing face coverings had forced entry into the home and attacked a male resident in his 40s, before fleeing the scene.
The man was treated at the scene by ambulance paramedics for facial injuries and taken to the hospital for further care. No further injuries were reported.
A short time later, police were called to reports of a car on fire in the neighbouring suburb of Granville.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze but the car was destroyed.
Police established crime scenes at both locations and have commenced an investigation into whether the two incidents were linked.– NNN-AAP
