SEOUL, Jul 20 (NNN-YONHAP) – Fourteen people were killed and 12 others went missing, after five days of torrential rain battered South Korea, the interior ministry, said, today.
Fourteen fatalities were confirmed and 12 people remained unaccounted for, at 11:00 a.m. local time (0200 GMT), today, according to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.
The downpour, which began on Wednesday, forced 13,209 people to evacuate their homes across the country, with 3,836 staying in temporary shelters, as of this morning.
The country’s southern regions were pounded by the heaviest rain, with the rainfall reaching 793.5 mm in Sancheong county, South Gyeongsang province, for 106 hours through 10:00 a.m. last Sunday.
A total of 1,920 public and 2,234 private property damage cases were reported, including inundated roads, landslides, river facility collapses, flooded buildings and submerged farmland.– NNN-YONHAP
