Two Explosive Drones Crashed In Oil Field In N. Iraq

BAGHDAD, Jul 15 (NNN-NINA) – Two explosive-laden drones crashed last night, at the Khurmala oil field in Erbil province, in northern Iraq’s semi-autonomous region of Kurdistan, local authorities, said.

According to a statement from the regional Directorate General of Counter Terrorism, two drones crashed in the oil field at 8:20 p.m. and 8:25 p.m. local time (1720 and 1725 GMT).

No casualties were reported, and no group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.

Meanwhile, a statement from the Security Media Cell, a media outlet affiliated with the Iraqi Joint Operations Command, said, the incident caused only material damage, and coordination is underway to investigate the attack.

Iraq witnessed an increasing number of drone attacks recently. The Kurdish government frequently blames the pro-Iranian militias for the attacks, which is denied by the federal government in Baghdad.

Earlier in the day, an explosive-laden drone was shot down before dawn, near the Erbil International Airport, which hosts a base for the U.S.-led international anti-Daesh coalition. Earlier this month, another drone was shot down near this airport, and an explosive drone was downed near the base of Kurdish Peshmerga forces, in the northern province of Kirkuk.– NNN-NINA
