YANGON, Jul 13 (NNN-MNA) – Myanmar observed World Population Day with a ceremony in Nay Pyi Taw, emphasising the role of population data in national development, the state-run daily, Myanma Alinn, reported yesterday.
Speaking at the event, Vice Chairman of Myanmar’s State Administration Council, Vice Senior General Soe Win, said that, Myanmar will soon hold free and fair multi-party general elections, and population data obtained from the 2024 census will make a major contribution to ensuring that the rights of all eligible voters are not violated, the report said.
Soe Win added that, the data will help ensure that the general elections are held in a fair and orderly manner, and basic requirements for the accuracy of the voter list are met. The data will also be useful for relief efforts in cities affected by a strong earthquake in March.
Soe Win urged an analysis of the birth rate, death rate, and migration rate, which directly affect the population growth rate, saying that, according to the 2024 census, there has been no population growth over the past 10 years.
The 2014 census recorded a population of over 51.4 million people, and the 2024 census indicated that the current population was just over 51.3 million.– NNN-MNA
