ALMATY, Jul 11 (NNN-KNA) – Direct train service from Ust-Kamenogorsk city, in eastern Kazakhstan, to major Uzbek cities, including Tashkent, Samarkand and Bukhara, will be restored later this year, it reported Thursday.

The decision was discussed during a meeting between East Kazakhstan Governor Nurymbet Saktaganov and Uzbekistan’s Ambassador to Kazakhstan Bakhtiyor Ibragimov.

The talks focused on strengthening regional cooperation, particularly in transport connectivity, agro-industrial complex and tourism.

In addition to the railway project, the two sides noted the launch of direct flights between Ust-Kamenogorsk and destinations in Uzbekistan.

The meeting also covered cooperation in the supply of nuclear fuel for Uzbekistan’s planned nuclear power plant, as well as the exchange of best practices in industrial waste treatment and disposal.
