Tanzanian VP Mpango woos Spanish investors

SEVILLE (Spain), July 4 (NNN-DAILYNEWS) — Tanzanian Vice-President Dr Philip Mpango has invited Spanish investors to explore key opportunities in Tanzania, particularly in clean cooking energy technologies, as part of the country’s broader strategy to address environmental degradation.

Speaking during the opening of the Tanzania-Spain Business Forum held in Seville, Spain, the Vice-President said another important area for investment lies in the sustainable harvesting of resources from the blue economy, particularly in the Indian Ocean and the Great Lakes Region.

He pointed out that the resources remain vastly untapped and hold immense potential for contributing to Tanzania’s economic development and ecological balance.

Dr Mpango said the government is fully prepared to work closely with the Spanish business community, expressing confidence that Tanzania and Spain can forge a strong and mutually beneficial economic partnership that will further strengthen the two nations’ diplomatic and trade relations.

“Tanzania continues to recognise Spain as an important partner in strategic sectors such as renewable energy, infrastructure development, agricultural technology, tourism, marine resource-based industries and trade,” Dr Mpango said.

The Vice-President expressed the government’s strong belief in the role of the private sector as a critical partner in driving national development, leading social transformation and accelerating economic growth.

He noted that Tanzania is a peaceful and politically stable country, strategically located in East Africa, endowed with abundant natural resources, a large and youthful population and a rapidly growing economy.

He detailed that the government is undertaking wide-ranging reforms aimed at improving the investment climate and reinforcing the private sector’s central role in achieving sustainable development.

Dr Mpango explained that under the leadership of President Samia Suluhu Hassan, the government has made significant progress in strengthening legal frameworks, expanding and modernising infrastructure as well as committing to transparency and good governance.

The Vice-President further outlined key sectors that are currently ready for investment, including agriculture and agribusiness, tourism and energy.

Others are mining, manufacturing, blue economy and infrastructure development.

Dr Mpango identified other investment opportunities in fisheries and fish processing sector, mineral exploration, coastal and marine tourism, transportation and the development of coastal and island areas of Tanzania.

During the forum, leaders from Tanzania’s investment showcased Tanzania’s market potential, driven by its population size, geographical location that connects multiple countries, upgraded basic infrastructure and progress in ICT development.

A total of 31 Spanish companies participated in the forum, representing the sectors of agriculture and food processing, infrastructure development, manufacturing, water, mining, energy, ICT, tourism and finance.

The meeting was also attended by senior Tanzanian officials including Deputy Permanent Secretary in the President’s Office for Finance and Planning (Zanzibar) Aboud Mwinyi, Tanzania’s Ambassador to Spain (based in France) Ali Mwadini, Director General of the Tanzania Investment and Special Economic Zones Authority (TISEZA) Gilead Teri. — NNN-DAILYNEWS
