SYDNEY, Jul 2 (NNN-AAP) – Australian flag carrier, Qantas, said today that, a significant amount of customer data has likely been compromised in a cyberattack.
The Qantas Group said in a statement that, a cybercriminal on Monday, gained access to a third-party customer servicing platform, used by a Qantas contact centre.
It said that, six million Qantas customers have service records on the compromised platform, and it expects the proportion of data that has been stolen to be “significant.”
An initial review confirmed, the data includes customers’ names, email addresses, phone numbers and birth dates, but not credit card details, passwords, financial information or passport details.
Qantas said, the system had been contained and that its systems remain secure. It said, the Australian Federal Police, Australian Cyber Security Centre and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner, have been notified about the incident and affected customers will be contacted.
“We sincerely apologise to our customers and we recognise the uncertainty this will cause. Our customers trust us with their personal information and we take that responsibility seriously,” Chief Executive, Vanessa Hudson, said in a statement.
A dedicated support line has been set up for customers, and Qantas said, there would be no impact on its operations or the safety of the airline.– NNN-AAP
