S. Korea’s Top Prosecutor Offers To Resign

SEOUL, Jul 1 (NNN-YONHAP) – South Korea’s top prosecutor, has offered to resign, about nine months after he took office in Sept last year, multiple media outlets said today.

Prosecutor General, Shim Woo-jung, tendered his resignation yesterday, and his retirement ceremony will be held tomorrow.

President Lee Jae-myung, who was sworn in as the country’s 21st president on Jun 4, vowed to disperse the power of the prosecution, by taking away all of the prosecution’s rights to investigate and giving them to the police.

By law, prosecutors are currently allowed to investigate certain grave crimes.– NNN-YONHAP
