NAIROBI, June 30 (NNN-KBC) — President William Ruto depart for official visits to Spain and the United Kingdom on Sunday, where he aims to secure significant bilateral agreements and promote Kenya’s role in global economic governance.
In London, State House has announced that President Ruto will meet with UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer to sign the renewed Kenya–UK Strategic Partnership 2025–2030, a comprehensive five-year framework focused on trade, climate action, technology, and security cooperation.
“The partnership aims to double trade by 2030, equip Kenyans with digital skills, and strengthen cooperation on regional stability, terrorism, cyber threats, and climate action,” said State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed.
Under the trade and green growth pillar, Mohamed indicated that flagship projects such as Nairobi Railway City will be expedited, transforming Nairobi’s CBD into a modern, transit-oriented economic hub.
“The UK has committed to mobilizing up to £1.5 billion in new investments across Kenya to drive growth across priority sectors by 2030,” he added.
In a significant boost to Kenya’s financial services sector, Lloyd’s of London is expected to announce the establishment of a regional underwriting hub in Nairobi, under the Nairobi International Financial Centre (NIFC), positioning the capital as a financial gateway for Sub-Saharan Africa.
The President will also deliver the keynote address at the Africa Debate hosted by Invest Africa, a platform that brings together global investors to explore strategic partnerships aligned with Kenya’s economic transformation agenda.
Before arriving in London, President Ruto will commence his European tour in Seville, Spain, where he will attend the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development. The summit convenes global leaders to redefine development financing principles in response to escalating global challenges.
“He will advocate for reinvigorated multilateralism in a world facing growing uncertainties, geopolitical tensions and intersecting crises; from extreme poverty, rising inequalities, and economic turmoil, to climate change and biodiversity loss,” Mohamed confirmed in his statement to the press.
President Ruto is also scheduled to co-chair a high-level session and hold bilateral talks with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and King Felipe VI. The discussions will focus on strengthening ties in clean energy, youth empowerment, and climate resilience. — NNN-KBC
