Man Assaulted, Firearms Stolen, House Put On Fire In Violent Home Invasion Northeast Of Melbourne

SYDNEY, Jun 23 (NNN-AAP) – Australian police are searching for a group of offenders, after a man was assaulted, and firearms were stolen, during a violent home invasion northeast of Melbourne.

A police statement said that, the group of three unknown offenders arrived at a property in the small town of Yea, 80 km north-east of Melbourne, at 1:15 a.m. early today, armed with firearms and a machete, and attacked a 58-year-old male occupant when he refused to hand over money and firearms.

Officers were told that the man was dragged out of the house and locked inside the trunk of his own car, which was then driven down the driveway before he escaped.

One of the offenders then threatened the victim, while the other two set the house on fire.

All three offenders fled the scene in a vehicle after pouring fuel on the man and stealing three firearms.

The 58-year-old sustained non-life-threatening injuries and managed to drive to a nearby property to call emergency services.

The Country Fire Authority said that crews arrived to find the house engulfed in flames and that it was destroyed.

Police said an investigation into the incident has commenced, but no arrests have been made.– NNN-AAP
