LUANDA, June 12 (NNN-XINHUA) — At least two children died and 2,000 families suffered power cut after unusual heavy rains in dry season pounded Angola’s northern province of Uige for three days, the Angola Press Agency (ANGOP) said.
Antonio Simao, deputy provincial commander of the Service for Civil Protection and Firefighters, said the deaths occurred in the towns of Damba and Uige, where the unexpected downpour, accompanied by wind and hail, took residents off guard, an unusual phenomenon for the dry season.
Since Tuesday, at least 2,000 families in the province have been left without electricity due to the rain.
The rain also destroyed part of the Uige General Hospital, school infrastructure and vehicles parked along the road, reported ANGOP. — NNN-XINHUA
