JAKARTA, Jun 3 (NNN-ANTARA) – The death toll of landslides at a quarry located in Indonesia’s West Java province, rose to 21 yesterday, with four others still missing, an official said.
The search and rescue operation resumed yesterday, after a suspension on Sunday due to further landslides, said Mamang Fatmono, acting head of the operational unit of the provincial search and rescue office.
“Today (yesterday), two bodies were discovered,” he said, adding that, the number of missing persons decreased to four.
“The search and rescue operation is to be carried out for seven days,” Mamang stressed, saying that, it aligns with official procedures.
Hadi Rahmat, spokesperson of the disaster management and mitigation in West Java province, said that, a large amount of landslide material and possible further landslides during the evacuation, still challenged the search and rescue operation.
The owner and the supervisor of the Gunung Kuda mine, have been declared suspects for ignoring warning from the authorities, about the violation of the mining method, according to Senior Commissioner Sumarni, the police chief of Cirebon Regency.
The landslides struck the mine located in Bobos village of Cirebon Regency on Friday.– NNN-ANTARA
