OSAKA (JAPAN), June 1 (NNN-DAILYNEWS) — REHABILITATION of the major road networks in the central and southern regions of Tanzania is among the projects to be implemented in the newly signed cooperation agreements between Tanzania and Japan.
It was announced in Osaka, Japan, that Japan has pledged its continuous cooperation with Tanzania in implementing various projects that will provide social services to the Tanzanian citizens.
Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa made the statement in Japan, noting that the projects will be implemented through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
Additionally, Majaliwa noted that he also held a discussion with Japan’s Prime Minister, Ishiba Shigeru, who said one of Japan’s strategic plans is to work collaboratively with Tanzania in improving the various ongoing projects in the country, which include rehabilitating the Morogoro to Dodoma Road and the Kibiti to Lindi road.
“The Prime Minister (Ishiba Shigeru) has agreed to work to address the issue and has instructed their ambassador to Tanzania to inspect the roads, along with JICA, so that their government can decide to support us in rehabilitating the damaged roads,” Majaliwa noted.
However, the Premier noted that in his discussion with the Japanese government, they were more focused on searching for new economic opportunities, where they asked JICA to continue seeking financial institutions that will bring more projects to benefit individual Tanzanians and the country as a whole to gain financial empowerment by participating in the projects.
“And these are President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s directives and desire to see citizens participate in projects and benefit financially,” he noted.
He added, “The goal of engaging these stakeholders is to empower citizens to participate in various economic activities, to give a wider range, those who want to enter into business, agriculture, the mining sector, fishing, or livestock keeping.”
The PM departed for Japan on May 22 to represent President Samia Suluhu Hassan at the World Expo 2025, taking place in Osaka, Japan.
While in Japan, Majaliwa also participated in a business, investment, and tourism forum that brought together key stakeholders and entrepreneurs from Tanzania and Japan. — NNN-DAILYNEWS
