President William Ruto hosts President Nataša Pirc Musar of Slovenia at State House, Nairobi

NAIROBI, June 1 (NNN-KBC) — Kenya and Slovenia have committed to strengthening their strategic partnership by expanding trade and investment cooperation.

Speaking at a joint press briefing on Saturday with Slovenian President Nataša Pirc Musar at State House Nairobi, President William Ruto said the two leaders held discussions on information technology, climate change, health, peace, and security.

“We are committed to deepening Kenya’s strategic partnership with Slovenia to advance our shared interests in sustainable development, peace, and prosperity for the benefit of our peoples and the world,” said Ruto.

“We will strengthen trade and investment cooperation and work together to maximise the benefits of the Kenya-EU Economic Partnership Agreement, which holds immense potential to spur economic transformation in both our countries,” he added.

The two nations also signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Political Consultation, aimed at providing institutional support for their growing partnership.

“We have signed a memorandum of understanding on political consultations which will establish a framework for regular diplomatic dialogue and consultations on bilateral, regional and global issues of mutual interests,” Ruto stated.

The two leaders also agreed to explore joint projects in sustainable forestry, ecosystem management, eco-tourism, and the development of non-timber forest products, as Kenya races to meet its target of planting 15 billion trees by 2032.

Ruto said the countries will also partner in areas such as artificial intelligence, digital identity systems, cybersecurity, and emerging technologies to strengthen Kenya’s digital economy.

President Musar, who is on a three-day official State Visit to Kenya, will join President Ruto in marking Kenya’s 62nd Madaraka Day celebrations on Sunday, June 1, in Homa Bay County. — NNN-KBC
