MOSCOW, June 1 (NNN-AGENCIES) — At least seven people were killed and 30 were wounded after a train derailed in western Russia due to a bridge collapse in the Bryansk region that borders Ukraine, officials said.

Without any elaboration, Moscow Railways in a statement said the bridge collapsed “as a result of illegal interference in transport operations.”

The federal road transportation agency of Russia, Rosavtodor, stated that the collapsed bridge passed above the railway tracks where the train was passing by at the moment.

Photos posted by government agencies show passenger cars from the train ripped apart due to the fallen concrete amid the collapsed bridge. Some footage was taken from inside the cars which avoided travelling onto the bridge before it collapsed.

Bryansk regional Governor Alexander Bogomaz confirmed the deadly incident on Telegram app, and earlier said “Unfortunately, there are casualties.”

The governor informed that emergency services and government officials were working at the site of the crash.

He further added the collapse took place in the Vygonichskyi district in the area of a federal highway. “Everything is being done to provide all necessary assistance to the victims,” he said.

Governor Bogomaz confirmed that seven people had died in the incident, and at least 30 were injured, including two children. — NNN-AGENCIES
