NEW DELHI, May 25 (NNN-PTI) – Delhi and nearby states were hit by strong thunderstorms, accompanied by heavy rains and lightning, last night, leading to severe water-logging, uprooted trees and over 100 flights affected in several north Indian states.
Buses, cars and other vehicles were seen submerged in water, collected in underpasses in several areas of the Indian capital city. Power supply was impacted for long hours due to the inclement weather.
This morning, knee-deep to waist-deep water logging was witnessed in several low-lying areas, particularly in central and south Delhi, disrupting traffic movement.
The Delhi Airport issued an advisory to passengers, to check their respective flights’ status, before leaving for the airport. “Due to adverse weather conditions in Delhi, 49 flights were diverted between 11:30 p.m. and 04:00 a.m. Normal services restored,” said media reports quoting sources at the Delhi airport.
According to a local media report, one police officer died in Ghaziabad town, in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh, after the roof collapsed over him at his office, during the thunderstorm and heavy rains.– NNN-PTI
