SINGAPORE, May 20 (NNN-XINHUA) – All 30 people on board an Indonesian-registered vessel were rescued today, after it capsized in waters north-east of Pedra Branca, within Singapore’s maritime search and rescue region, authorities said.
In a statement, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore said, the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre Singapore, received an alert at 7:20 a.m. local time (2320 GMT), yesterday, from a Hong Kong-registered containership reporting the incident.
The centre coordinated the search and rescue operation, issuing navigational broadcasts to nearby vessels. A Liberia-registered bulk carrier was directed to the scene and successfully rescued all 30 individuals from the water.
The rescued persons will be disembarked in Batam, Indonesia.– NNN-XINHUA
